Spring Road Work Begins on SR 9

INDOT has scheduled shoulder repairs and resurfacing along State Road 9 through Wolcottville beginning the week of March 23. The work is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.
Drivers should expect flaggers and occasional single-lane closures during work hours (7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday). No detours are planned at this time, but delays of 5-10 minutes are possible during peak work periods.
The project covers roughly 1.5 miles from the south town limit to just north of the SR 9/SR 20 intersection. Residents along affected stretches may notice equipment staged on the shoulder overnight.
Lakeland School Board Approves Playground Upgrade

At its regular meeting on March 9, the Lakeland School Corporation board voted unanimously to approve the purchase and installation of new playground equipment at Wolcottville Elementary.
The existing structures, installed in the mid-1990s, have reached the end of their useful life according to a recent safety audit. The new equipment will include an accessible play structure, swings, and a rubberized surface to replace the current pea gravel.
Installation is tentatively scheduled for June, with completion expected before the start of the 2026-27 school year. The project is funded through the school corporation's capital projects fund.
Wolcottville Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser Tops $4,200

The WVFD's annual pancake breakfast and silent auction raised $4,200 last Saturday, surpassing last year's total by nearly $600. Over 180 people attended the breakfast at the fire station.
Funds will go toward replacing outdated turnout gear and upgrading radio equipment. Fire Chief Dan Marks thanked the community for its ongoing support, noting that the department relies entirely on volunteer firefighters and community fundraising for equipment beyond what the township budget covers.
"People show up for this town," Marks said. "That's just how it works here."
